First post! Success!

The title may have given it away; it's my first post!
Well, I suppose it'd be fitting to lay down the foundations of this blog. Below I've included a conversation between you and myself that, I imagine, would go a little like this...

Who are you?
Excellent question, sir. My name is Sarah Schmitz, but at times I'll go by Schmitzy. Don't be alarmed, this is still me. Sarah in a nutshell: I'm sixteen, I live in Texas, and I like artsy stuff.

I like you already. Now what's the purpose of this blog business?
Well as it turns out, I'm going to be a foreign exchange student in Austria! My blog will be used to document this, as well as give friends/family a better idea of what's going on in my life abroad.

Foreign exchange student?! Tell me more...
I'll be spending five months of the second semester as a student (with AFS), doing much of the same stuff I do now. But at a different school, in a different country, and surrounded by strangers, and while attempting to speak a language that isn't English. Also important: I don't know my exact departure date yet, or who I'll be staying with.

Sounds promising.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Moving on. So, why Australia?
I chose Austria because I a) had been there before, and thought it was fantastic, and b) wanted to learn German. Yes, German.

At this point you'd give me a salute and be on your way. Or something along those lines.
